UWA and West Australian Opera (WAO) present a series of lecture recitals, talks and masterclasses with internationally recognised directors and artists from WAO’s 2018 season, which will delight audiences with a unique insight into the world of opera.

In our second lecture of 2018, join Serbian-born mezzo-soprano Milijana Nikolic as she discusses preparing for the title role of Carmen in WAO's upcoming production.

9:00 - COURSE - ANOVA, linear and logistic regression Website | More Information
This course covers techniques that can be used to analyse data with continuous and categorical variables. The course will begin with simple linear regression and then proceed with approaches that can be used with more than two variables such as multiple regression. ANOVA with interactions and blocking will also be covered. The course will end with techniques that address the analysis of binary or ordinal variables.

9:00 - EVENT - AUSTA Cello Big Day Out Website | More Information
The AUSTA Big Cello Day Out will be held at the UWA Conservatorium of Music.

Activities will include: opportunities for junior, intermediate and advanced students to play and receive feedback from expert teachers, cello ensemble workshops, and the chance for teachers of junior, secondary and tertiary students to observe and participate in discussion forums with guest teachers.

Visiting cellists include Thomas Gregory (UK), David Pereira (ANU) and Alvin Wong (Melbourne), Louise Butler (ACT) among others, will provide expert insights and feedback to participants.

The day will conclude with a master class by WASO soloist and international cellist, Pablo Ferrández.

Registration can be made for individual sessions, combined sessions or the whole day. Special discounts are available for AUSTA National Conference delegates, AUSTA members and students. Attendance at all sessions is free for Australian tertiary music students with current university ID. A catered lunch may be ordered online along with your registration.

Join us for the annual Keyed Up! Day of Piano where you can learn tips and tricks of piano performance from some of Perth’s most experienced teachers and examiners. Why not ensure that every performance you give is one that you are proud of, whether that be for your University or School assessment, WACE practical or AMEB or other grade exams!

The skills that you learn at the Keyed Up! Day of Piano will give you the confidence to excel in all your performance endeavours!

Led by UWA Head of Keyboard and Performance Studies, Graeme Gilling and supported by Perth’s finest pianists, teachers and performance specialists and ideally timed for those students undertaking ATAR Music and AMEB or other grade exams the Keyed Up! Day of Piano is an event not to be missed!

Cyril, was a journalist on The West Australian for 36 years, 25 of them as crime reporter.

He has covered assignments in Libya's Sahara Desert, Afghanistan, New Guinea, Central Borneo, Nepal and Japan to name but a few.

He searched for and found a lost tribe of Penans in Borneo; walked the Kokoda Trail; traced the "poppy trail" through the "Golden Triangle"; got into Kabul only days before tribal warfare broke out and was on assignment in Hiroshima during that city's 50th anniversary of the atomic bomb attack.

Since leaving The West Australian 26 years ago, he has written 21 books, and has just published his autobiography, “Chameleon – Reporter at Large.”

Pianist Alex Raineri is a sought-after recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician. He joins us at UWA as a Royal Over-Seas League Artist in Residence for a week of workshops, masterclasses and performances.

In this his solo recital, he presents a program of challenging and varied works for piano including a new work by UWA faculty member James Ledger.
