Madrigal Project

Join Honours voice student David Woods as he leads a concert of madrigals in collaboration with a selection of talented singers from the UWA Voice Department. The diverse range of works on this programme explore of themes of love, loss and lamentation. Please come and join us for an exciting evening of madrigal madness!

VOSE Concerto Competition First Round

The VOSE Memorial Prize is UWA’s most coveted performance award, with 3 finalists chosen to perform with full symphony orchestra in the Perth Concert Hall in October. Join us for the first round as our talented students perform their chosen concerto for our panel of judges.

15:30 - KIDS MUSIC PROGRAM - UWA Music presents: WA Young Percussion Group (WAYPG) Website | More Information
Back for Semester 2 2020, the West Australian Youth Percussion Group (WAYPG) is an exciting program run through the UWA Junior Music School and directed by Perth percussionists Jackson Vickery and Adam Tan. WAYPG aims to provide enthusiastic and talented young percussionists an opportunity to perform in a high-quality ensemble outside of their school environment, bridging the gap between secondary and tertiary education.

The members of WAYPG will rehearse a wide variety of repertoire, including works for marimba ensemble, world percussion and multi percussion, culminating in a public performance at the Percussion All-Stars percussion showcase concert. This biannual performance showcases students of all levels from around Perth in a professional concert environment. WAYPG members will also have opportunities to perform in other public performances around Perth.

WAYPG is currently open to high-school students in years 7-12 with at least one year of percussion tuition. To audition, applicants must send in a short video of them playing (phone video is fine). Returning students are not required to re-audition.

Masterclasses give students a unique opportunity to develop their skills, hone their craft and succeed in their musical endeavours (whether that be an upcoming exam, audition or just personal progress).

This September, we invite Classical Guitarists of all ages and abilities to join our free masterclass with UWA Chair of Guitars, Dr Jonathan Fitzgerald.

An internationally recognised performer and passionate teacher, Jonathan had the privilege of learning under classical guitar virtuoso and Grammy Award winner Jason Vieaux, Dr Nicholas Goluses and world renowned lutenist Paul O'Dette. The recipient of numerous teaching awards, he has led the UWA guitar studio since 2016 and is deeply committed to the success of his students.

Descending from the roofline of the majestic St Mary’s Cathedral are sixteen stained glass windows commemorating beloved and lesser known saints. In this program, Con-Cantorum presents joyous and reflective music connected with these saints, including the premiere of a new commission by Lydia Gardiner.

The Music of Nicholas Bannan

Dr Nicholas Bannan is an accomplished international composer, conductor, music researcher and Associate Professor at the UWA Conservatorium of Music. He joined UWA from the University of Reading in 2006. He won several competitions as a composer, including the Fribourg Prize for Sacred Music in 1986, and has completed commissions for the Allegri and Grieg Quartets, the Guildhall String Ensemble, Cantemus Novum of Antwerp, and the Gentlemen of St Paul's Cathedral.

In 2020 Nicholas will be retiring from UWA so we invite you to join us for a special Lunchtime Concert featuring works written by Nicholas and performed by students and staff of the Conservatorium

The exceptional ability of young emerging artists and their passion for music creates an extraordinary experience for concertgoers. In 2020 we join forces with West Australian Opera, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, the UWA Choral Society, numerous community ensembles and local schools to present a diverse program that celebrates the true spirit of music.

Culmination

Presented in collaboration with the University of Western Australia Choral Society

The outstanding ability of our emerging artists is celebrated as three young performers compete in the finals of the prestigious VOSE Concerto Competition. Who will win this coveted prize? Have your say and vote for your favourite performance in the People’s Choice Award!

The evening will culminate in a performance celebrating Beethoven’s 250th anniversary, with the UWA orchestra joined by voices from the Symphonic Chorus of UWA and the UWA Choral Society to present Beethoven’s Symphony No.9.
