Website |
More Information
|
The UWA Public Policy Institute is pleased to announce the release of its new major publication
The Preparedness Report – Climate change and the challenges facing universities and professions
A first of its kind, this report is concerned with the implications of climate change for academic disciplines and professional bodies: their responses to, as well as their responsibility for adapting in the face of its challenges. Focusing on a small group of examples, the report presents answers to questions such as:
• How will climate change impact on the feasibility, processes, sustainability and operations of a range of professions?
• How must these professions evolve and adapt in order to keep pace with those changes?
• How will future members of these professions need to be educated and trained?
• How will the underlying disciplines of the professions change?
• Which new fields of research and education will emerge?
Join us for the official launch of this important publication, and hear directly from some of the expert authors, as well as UWA Vice-Chancellor Amit Chakma and former WA Premier Carmen Lawrence.

11:00 - EVENT - GAMSAT Courses To Get Into Medicine : Free GAMSAT preparation courses, advice and guidance
|
Website |
More Information
|
Preparation strategy
There are three sections to the test: Reasoning in Humanities & Social Sciences; Written Communication; and Reasoning in Biological & Physical Sciences. Most candidates are concerned with the third section because it assumes a certain level of knowledge (equivalent to first year university level chemistry and biology, and A-level/Leaving Certificate/Year 12 physics).
GAMSAT Preparation Sections I & II:
The best way to prepare for Sections I & II is to read widely (periodicals, novels, poems, etc.). Candidates should think about and understand what they are reading and look for the implied meaning in what they read. Candidates should practice to form opinions and judgements that they can then apply to create interesting pieces of writing for Section II.
GAMSAT Preparation Section III:
Candidates prepare for Section III of GAMSAT in a number of different ways.
Join us and get access to free GAMSAT courses to enable you to conquer GAMSAT in March 2021

16:00 - PUBLIC TALK - Maths & Stats Colloquium : Deciding that two groups are the same: an update on group isomorphism
|
More Information
|
Groups are mathematical objects that abstractly capture the concept of symmetry. Two groups are isomorphic if they essentially describe the same data, but they might be given with respect to different frames of reference. More specifically, two groups are isomorphic if there is a 1-to-1 correspondence between their elements that preserves the group operations. The group isomorphism problem is a decision problem that asks whether two given groups are isomorphic. This problem is of interest in theoretical computer science (with focus on the complexity of the problem) and in computational group theory (with focus on practical algorithms). My talk will survey some known results and comment on some recent new results, covering both complexity theory and practical applications to computer algebra systems.
17:45 - FREE LECTURE - In Conversation with Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia, Mr Vasyl Myroshnychenko : The UWA Defence and Security Institute invites you to attend an In Conversation public event featuring Ukraine’s newly installed Ambassador to Australia His Excellency Vasyl Myroshnychenko.

Ambassador Myroshnychenko joined Ukraine's foreign service after two decades helping international clients develop solid relationships with the stakeholders in the government, civil society and local community in Ukraine. Ambassador Myroshnychenko is focussed on enhancing Ukraine-Australia bilateral relations through military cooperation, trade and investment, culture, education and tourism.
Ambassador Myroshnychenko will discuss his reflections on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the reaction of the international community, and Australia-Ukraine relations.
While this event will inevitably have considerable focus on the current situation in Ukraine, Ambassador Myroshnychenko is also interested in exploring how Western Australia and Ukraine might work together more closely in a post-war reconstruction phase, and over the long term through increased bilateral trade and investment.
This public event will take place in the theatre-auditorium located at The University Club of Western Australia. Please register your attendance as places are limited.
