The Westerly Centre and UWA Publishing will host a poetry reading by visiting poet, Rose Lucas, from her latest book, Even in the Dark.

In this, her first book of poetry, Lucas distills years of writing into an impressive debut. Even in the Dark contains delicate poems of the lives of women and the exquisite beauty contained in the act of observation.

The application process for the 2014 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme will be opening soon.

The Programme seeks to enhance internationalisation in Japan by promoting mutual understanding between the people of Japan and those of other nations. It aims to enhance foreign language education and promote international exchange at the local level through the fostering of ties between Japanese youth and foreign youth alike. The objectives of the Programme are achieved by offering participants the opportunity to serve in local authorities as well as public and private primary, junior high and senior high schools.

A committee member of the JET Alumni Association of WA and staff from the Consulate-General of Japan in Perth will be at this seminar to answer your questions.

The Callaway Lecture is one of the most prestigious events on the School of Music calendar. Over the last two decades, a host of distinguished speakers have taken the podium to deliver their thoughts on subjects as broad ranging as the effects of music on the mind, and the place of music in the arts.

In 2013, Artistic Director of West Australian Opera presents the Callaway Lecture based on his performer/ scholar experiences. Conductor of opera, oratorio and symphonic works, and educator, Joseph Colaneri’s achievements are outstanding in each of the areas in his multi-faceted career. After fifteen seasons as a member of the conducting roster of the Metropolitan Opera, Maestro Colaneri is Artistic Director of the West Australian Opera in Perth and concurrently serves as Artistic Director of Opera at Mannes College The New School for Music in New York.
