One of Australia's most highly regarded artists, Trevor Vickers will join Dr Sally Quin Curator of the UWA Art Collection and curator of Feeling abstract? in conversation within the exhibition.
Born in SA in 1943 and now based in WA, Trevor Vickers exhibited in the ground-breaking and controversial The Field exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in 1968. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, Vickers lived and worked in Melbourne alongside Australia's best known conceptual and post-object artists including Robert Hunter, Paul Partos and Mike Brown. Following a period in England from the late 1970s to the mid-90s where he produced shaped paintings and a series of screenprints, he returned to Perth in 1995 where he has continued to explore hard-edge, minimal, geometric abstraction in his paintings.
Vicker’s works are held by all the major art galleries nationally including the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of Western Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of South Australia, Queensland Art Gallery and numerous corporate collections such as Wesfarmers and Bankwest.
