Join Chantal Bourgault Du Coudray, Lecturer in Gender Studies at UWA, to contemplate Kate Just’s 'In my skin'.
‘Knitting in public turns the interiority of the domestic outward.’ (Bratich & Brush, 2011)
Feminist thinkers and artists have long contemplated the cultural politics of crafts associated with women, particularly textile production. Kate Just’s knitted work In my skin, currently on display in (Un)ladylike Acts, is an invitation to think about this history of thinking and writing. In order to explore this work’s impact and meaning, the session will be conducted in the spirit of a ‘knitting circle’ where participants will experientially investigate the ongoing links between feminist activism, women’s crafts, and the praxis of women’s studies. BYO handicraft!
