FREE LECTURE: In Practice: Radical Curatorship *CANCELLED*
Join Campbell Gray, Director of The University of Queensland Art Museum, for the first event in LWAG's 30th Anniversary 'In Practice' series focusing on timely issues in professional practice the arts.
In 'Radical Curatorship', Gray will explore the complex social, financial and architectural influences that impact exhibition-making. As Gray states, 'For those of us whose passion is building exhibitions that we hope will matter to our audiences, dilemmas abound. It is clear that human, financial and architectural resources create limitations. And it is also clear that our work ultimately is uncertain, imperfect and incomplete. How are decisions made in this domain? Let's talk together about it'.
Campbell Gray has spent 30 years working in art museums and previously worked as Director, Brigham Young University Museum of Art in Utah, USA. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Art History from the University of Sussex. With contemporary art at the core, he is passionate about the opportunities that occur within the relationships between universities and art museums. His drive is to develop programs that cause university community members to increase critical thinking within the disciplines and stimulate inquiry beyond them; to challenge intellectual conventions and the assumptions that emerge from them; to heighten awareness and appreciation of alternative ideas; and to increase ethical sensitivity.
