Asian Studies Seminar : Reading Hokusaiís Manga in Nineteenth-Century France Other events...
This presentation examines the early reception and popularity of Katsushika Hokusaiís Manga in late nineteenth-century Paris. A multi-volume series of diverse illustrations, the Manga arrived in France during a moment of cultural transition, and this talk will examine how the French instrumentalised and interpreted Hokusaiís illustrations to suit radical political and artistic agendas.
