Title: Improving Personality Assessment: Facets, Response Models, and Utility.
Personality traits are among the most widely studied individual difference variables in psychological research. Numerous primary and meta-analytic studies have established their importance in educational, health, and employment settings. Most of this research, as well as practical applications, depend fundamentally on the quality of personality measurement. In this talk, I will review some of my past and current studies that 1) clarified the lower-order factor structure, 2) introduced better fitting item response models, and 3) helped to implement personality tests in high-volume, high-stakes personnel selection contexts.
BioOlexander (Sasha) Chernyshenko received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002 with a major in I/O psychology and minors in quantitative methods and HRM. His first academic appointment was at the University of Canterbury (New Zealand), where he taught I/O psychology courses and supervised students pursuing applied psychology MSc degrees. In 2007, Sasha moved to Singapore to join the Nanyang Business School. Currently, he is the Academic Director of Nanyang EMBA program and teaches personnel selection and talent management courses to undergraduates, MBAs, and executives.
Sasha’s research has been published in many international journals including Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Organizational Behavior & Human Decision Processes, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Psychological Assessment, Multivariate Behavioral Research, Applied Psychological Measurement, and Journal of Occupational & Organizational Psychology. He is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Testing, serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Business and Psychology, and reviews for many I/O and measurement journals.
