Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) are frequently used in the written examinations because of positive psychometric
characteristics, a long history of research evidence, versatility in testing more cognitive knowledge as well as ease of scoring. At the same time constructing a good MCQ is itself a laborious and lengthy exercise requiring an hour to write a good question. There are general guidelines on how to construct an MCQ however all MCQ formats are prone to construction errors and studies have identified flaws in MCQs. This workshop will focus on the use of multiple choice questions. The participants will have an opportunity to discuss different types of objective test items and review a sample of test items in the light of universally accepted guidelines.
