Everyone is warmly invited to the Mathematics & Statistics Colloquium.
Talk title: Snowflakes, viruses and algorithms
Talk abstract: In this talk we will look at different objects that have one thing in
common: they exhibit symmetry.
Why is this relevant? How can we grasp the concept of symmetry
mathematically and how can we understand it?
Inspired by examples, we will look at symmetry and discuss how it can be
used to simplify complex calculations, to understand and classify
objects from real life, and to improve algorithms.
