Experimental Medicine - A junior class and a Master of Science program : School of Anatomy, Physiology & Human Biology Seminar Series Other events...
The Seminar: The education of medical school students in Germany in topics of experimental research is unsatisfactory. To train interested and selected medical students from their first year onwards in scientific thinking and methodology with a strong focus on laboratory experimentation in active research groups is the topic of our new training and study program – Experimental Medicine.

This unique program educates interested medical students not only through the curricular medicine course work, but in addition they get the opportunity to define and solve scientific problems.

We herewith educate medical doctors also to speak the language of science. These doctors will be more efficient in building the bridge between bedside and bench, and will thereby accelerate translational medicine.

The Speaker: Rupert is currently Full Professor in the Medical Faculty at Muenster University, Germany and the Head of the team for establishing the new BSc/MSc “Experimental Medicine”. He has also held positions in the Department of Experimental Pathology, Lund University, Sweden and as Group Leader in the Institute for Experimental Medicine, Erlangen-Nuernberg, Germany. He graduated from the Max-Planck-Institute for Development Biology, Germany. His central research interests are: The Role of the Blood Vessel Endothelium in Inflammation and Leukocyte Estravasation; Mechanisms of Endothelial Cell Angiogenesis & Differentiation and Mechanisms of Endothelial Cell Activation. He has 56 publications.
