Presenter: Assoc/Prof Konstantin Cigularov (ODU, Norfolk, VA, USA)

Konstantin Cigularov is an Associate Professor in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Occupational Health Psychology in the Department of Psychology, Old Dominion University, Virginia, United States and a PhD graduate of I/O Psychology from Colorado State University. Konstantin is an experienced lecturer and researcher concentrating his research interest in occupational health and safety, high-risk industries, leadership and climate, training and development. His colloquium will present an overview of his research on the effects of organizational leadership on employee safety and health with emphases on special/ at-risk populations.

Title: To Lead or Not to Lead? A Question with Implications for Employee Safety and Health.

Abstract:

Leadership has been increasingly recognized as a critical force in engendering and promoting fulfilling, healthy, and safe workplaces. This presentation will provide an overview of Dr. Cigularov's research on the effects of organizational leadership on employee safety and health with emphases on special/ at- risk populations. Specifically, leadership as a predictor and moderator of important outcomes, such as employee safety motivation and performance, as well as burnout and engagement. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of key implications for leadership research and development.
