Friends of the UWA Library Speaker : The Future of Libraries: Disruption, Reinvention, Innovation Other events...
Never have there been more immense challenges or greater opportunities for libraries. Technology has caused significant disruption to the model where print information once defined the library and the library’s worth was measured by the total number of books on shelves. As a result, significant debate and comment exists on the future of libraries and their relevance. Predominantly the library’s fundamental mission and values remain unchanged, however new structures, cultures, ideas, and roles are critical. Libraries not only have to adapt and capitalise on change to survive, but must create change to triumph. In this presentation Jill Benn, University Librarian at the University of Western Australia, will explore the various challenges and opportunities for libraries, focusing on those within tertiary institutions. She will reflect on the changes for the Library at UWA and discuss some of the Library’s current strategic priorities and activities.
