Whatever it Takes: legal and sport science perspectives on the 'Essendon Saga' Other events...
The Essendon Football Club doping scandal involves a biochemist, a high performance manager, a club doctor, a favourite son of the club as coach, elite footballers, the Australian Crime Commission, politicians, AFL and club administrators, the Australian Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and the judiciary. The scandal has ruined careers, reputations and long held friendships.

Tony Buti, Member for Armadale (WA State Parliament) and honorary fellow in the Law School at The University of Western Australia and Brian Dawson, Professor in Sport and Exercise Physiology in the School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health at The University of Western Australia will offer legal and science perspectives on this difficult case.

Dr Buti will provide a commentary of the chronology of events that make up the 'Essendon Saga', then move on to a legal analysis of CAS's decision that overturned the 'not guilty' verdicts of the AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal.

Professor Dawson will cover the effects peptides, such as Thymosin, Thymosin Beta 4 and AOD-9064, may have in the body and why they might be taken by elite sportspersons. He will also offer a coach and player perspective on the Essendon supplements controversy.

This public talk is co-sponsored by UWA’s Institute of Advanced Studies, the School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health and the SSEH Alumni Committee.
