SYMPOSIUM: Symposium of WA Neuroscience

On behalf of the organising committee of the Symposium of WA Neuroscience (SWAN), in association with the Neurotrauma Research Program of WA and supported by the WA Neuroscience Research Institute, the Australasian Neuroscience Society and Murdoch University, it is my pleasure to announce that registrations are now open for SWAN 2016 to be held on Monday the 18th of April at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
SWAN 2016 will be a full day meeting featuring Prof Simon Gandevia, Deputy Director and Foundation Scientist, Neuroscience Research Australia speaking on 'New views of proprioception and some surprises’ and Dr Siobhan Schabrun, NHMRC Career Development Fellow, School of Science and Health, University of Western Sydney on ‘How does the brain contribute to pain: from mechanisms to treatments'.
Local early career researchers will deliver presentations covering a diverse breadth of neuroscience: Dr Hak Fujiyama ‘Age-Related Changes in Frontal Network Structural and Functional Connectivity in Relation to Bimanual Movement Control’; Dr Livia dos Santos Carvalho; ‘Overview and future development for retinal gene therapy’; Dr Nathanael Yates ‘New markers of damage following repeated mild traumatic brain injury; and Dr Belinda Brown ‘The role of physical activity in slowing neurodegeneration and delaying Alzheimer’s disease’.
Submit your abstract by the 24th of March to be selected to give an oral presentation and be in the running for cash and other prizes in the categories of early career researcher, PhD student, Honours student proposal and Honours student research. Poster presentations are also welcome, with a further prize on offer. Registration is free, and required for catering purposes by the 11th of April. The day will conclude with a Sundowner with live entertainment. The final program will be circulated closer to the date.
