Ian presents here a brief history of the Maritime Archaeological Association and its relationship with the
WA Maritime Museum. The presentation will summarise and explore the results of some joint expeditions
with the Museum on shipwrecks in Australia and Overseas. It will also include a discussion of MAAWA
expeditions searching for survivors' camps and cave sites along the Ningaloo Coast, plus snorkelling at the
Batavia site at Beacon island looking for evidence of Dutch shipwrecks. Ian will also give an overview of the
new ShipwrecksWA phone app, and discuss the future directions of Underwater Archaeology in the new
'Digital Age' of recording and interpretation.
