Anthropology Seminar Series : TK Reite Notebooks: co-creating a toolkit for the preservation and transmission of traditional knowledge |

Given what we know about Traditional Knowledge, about the dangers of appropriation and misrepresentation on the one hand, and of loss, (ir)relevance, and transformation on the other, this seminar will offer a hands on demonstration of a toolkit with which people can cheaply record and transmit elements of their practices. Leaving content wholly at villagers discretion, and engaging in an iterative co-design process with rural villagers in Papua New Guinea, TK Reite Notebooks utilise a simple hybrid digital/paper technology that is adaptable to local conditions. Development to date suggests the toolkit provides the opportunity for reinvigorated engagement in the process of intergenerational transmission, utility in educational institutions, and a novel context for people across the social spectrum to take pride in producing beautiful documentation.
