PUBLIC TALK: Ageing and Wellbeing
|
|
A public lecture by Kaisu Pitkala, Professor of General Practice and Primary Health Care at the University of Helsinki and 2015 IAS Short Stay Visiting Fellow.
This lecture will deal with issues related to older peoples well-being, how it has developed over the last decades and how it can be influenced and improved. Is it possible to prevent geriatric syndromes such as cognitive decline, mobility problems, falls, frailty, malnutrition, loneliness or cardiovascular diseases? Is there evidence for interventions to prevent disability and maintain well-being to very high age? This lecture will describe some examples of successful evidence based interventions that have improved quality of life and well-being among older people.
Professor Pitkala's visit is supported by the IAS, the General Practice unit in the UWA School of Primary, Aboriginal and Rural Health Care (SPARHC), and the Western Australian Centre for Health and Ageing.
Cost: Free, but RSVP required via the IAS website.
