Professor David Mackey is the managing Director of the Lions Eye Institute and Head of the Centre for Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the University of Western Australia. He has studied the genetics of many eye diseases for over 25 years, examining thousands of patients with glaucoma as part of the Glaucoma Inheritance Study in Tasmania (GIST). He set up the Twins Eye Study before moving to Perth in 2009 to run eye examinations of the Raine and the Busselton Studies. All these studies have contributed to the International Consortium for Refractive Error and Myopia (CREAM).
