New music deserves a place that is not on the margins, but at the epicentre of how we define, consume, perform and teach classical music.
In this special concert, forming part of UWA Research Week we will be focussing on fluxus composition and concept music. We will examine the definition of what music actually is. The concert will explore the edge between noise and music, and activity and performance.
The audience will be invited to walk from room to room experiencing back-to-back performances taking place over the course of an hour.
Program to include:
Steve Reich: Pendulum Music
John Cage: Imaginary Landscape No. 1
John Cage: Water Walk
Alvin Lucier: Music for Piano and Slow-Sweep Pure Wave Oscillators
La Monte Young: Compositions 1960 No. 7
La Monte Young: Piano Piece No. 1 for David Tudor
Yoko Ono: Laundry Piece
Plus other pieces from and inspired by the Fluxus Codex
This is a concert not to be missed! Entry is free, no bookings required.
