A Good Night's Sleep: Sleep disorders and the shape of your face : A UWA Research Week Event Other events...
In this public lecture Professor Peter Eastwood, Head of the Centre for Sleep Science at UWA, will discuss the causes of sleep apnoea and its current treatments. He will talk about the cause of sleep apnoea, and in particular the importance of the structures of the face, head and neck.

Associate Professor Ajmal Mian, lead researcher at UWA's Machine Intelligence Group, will then describe a sophisticated way of measuring facial structures, based on 3-dimensional deformable model fitting - a highly accurate, fully automatic, self-learning process. He will demonstrate software that deforms a 3D face by varying set of parameters. It is possible that in the future sleep apnoea will be diagnosed from a single 3-D photograph of the face.

This lecture is part of UWA's Research week, which runs from 7-11 September 2015. To find out more about the program and related activities visit http://www.research.uwa.edu.au/researchweek
