Discussed primarily in the context of portraiture, anatomical models, or ex-voto offerings produced in gratitude for miraculous healings, wax sculptures tend to be read as visualised memory. Yet, their status within Western art history remains somehow precarious, their historical reception in early modern society often too intangible.
