Join Dr Susanne Meurer as she presents Mimesis and Memory in Wax Works in which she will discuss the recent revival of wax sculpture as an artistic medium and subject of critical study.

Discussed primarily in the context of portraiture, anatomical models, or ex-voto offerings produced in gratitude for miraculous healings, wax sculptures tend to be read as visualised memory. Yet, their status within Western art history remains somehow precarious, their historical reception in early modern society often too intangible.
