This lecture will discuss the connection between personal and social
perspectives in creating democracy. It will also touch on the role of the
individual and the NGO in the societal aspects of democracy building.
Contextual factors include the life of democracy in India, the Middle East
and Africa. Dr Marzouk will also be drawing on personal experiences and
the work of Initiatives of Change International.
Dr Omnia Marzouk is a UK- based Egyptian emergency paediatrician.
She works as a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at Alder
Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool. She was Clinical
Director of the Emergency Department for 7 years and is currently
Associate Medical Director. She is the current President of Initiatives
of Change International.
Dr Marzouk was born in Madrid, and spent her formative early
school years in Egypt. She moved to Australia as a teenager and
studied medicine at Sydney University. She obtained her MD thesis
from Liverpool University and is a Fellow of the Royal College of
Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH) and a Fellow of the College of
Emergency Medicine (FCEM).
