EVENT: iVEC Summer Internships - Information for Supervisors
|
|
iVEC is soliciting proposals for undergraduate internship projects that are suited to a ten-week period for the university summer break period, December 2014 to February 2015. Undergraduate students selected for the internships will receive up to $6,000 tax-free for the 10-week internship. This is an opportunity for advanced undergraduate students to use some of the most powerful supercomputers and advanced technologies in the world to advance scientific research.
Nominated projects must clearly demonstrate that the intern will be involved in exploring aspects of supercomputing, large-scale storage, high-speed communications, or scientific visualisation, and must utilise iVEC facilities. Nominated projects can come from any research field; we welcome proposals for projects outside of the disciplines that are traditionally core users of high-performance computing resources.
Projects will be assessed based on:
Merit and originality of the research to be supported;
Effective use of iVEC resources; and
Clarity of project plan.
Project proposals are due by 5pm, Friday 22 August 2014.
Projects will be assessed by a panel and accepted proposals will be made available online for students to nominate on their applications. Students will be evaluated independently of the projects.
There has been a growing interest in iVEC intern projects every year, and not all projects have been able to be funded. In an effort to leverage the most benefit from the intern program budget, we anticipate offering up to five places for projects fully funded by iVEC, and ten or more places for projects whose costs are shared equally by iVEC and the supervisor. In addition, we welcome proposals in which projects are fully underwritten by the supervisor.
