A Digital Humanities Research Seminar with Dr Brett D. Hirsch, ARC Discovery Early Career Research Fellow in English and Cultural Studies, UWA.
How has the field of Shakespeare Studies responded to the emergence of exciting new technologies, innovative computational and quantitative research methods, and the development of rich multimedia archives, large textual databases, and scholarly resources? How has the maturation and consolidation of “digital humanities” as an academic enterprise impacted Shakespeare Studies? This seminar will offer a practitioner’s-eye view of the state of Digital Shakespeare Studies since 2000, charting experiments in editing and publishing, paradigm shifts in research and pedagogy, new tools and methods for analyzing a growing and varied multimedia archive, successes and failures. It will offer an opportunity to reflect on these developments and achievements, highlight current research in the field, and speculate on future directions.
