Join us for a special free screening of the film Utamaro and his Five Women on Thursday 3rd April 2014 at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery in conjunction with the exhibition Ukiyo-e: Floating Prints of the Japanese World.
Inspired by the life of Kitagawa Utamaro, and considered by many critics to be the greatest portraitist of the Ukiyo-e woodblock print, Director Kenji Mizoguchi’s film explores the artist’s complex relationships with the women who inspired him.
The passion of both Utamaro and Mizoguchi for the beauty of women makes this one of the finest films about an artist and the unstoppable drive to create images.
Free to attend. RSVP is essential as places are limited.
