For Danza Viva’s 28th season, renowned Spanish dancer Paloma Gomez returns to Perth to feature as star of Danza Viva Spanish Dance Company’s new production Viva España at the Octagon Theatre on Saturday 25 January.
Famed as both dancer and teacher, Paloma Gomez was a member of Spain’s National Ballet Company from the age of just 17 years. Paloma has been lead dancer in many other prominent Spanish dance companies and is a welcome guest in many of the world’s dance centres whether in Chicago, Madrid, London, Winnipeg or New York. As such, we are fortunate that following her performance with Perth’s own Danza Viva Spanish Dance Company, Paloma Gomez will teach an intensive workshop in flamenco, clasico español, and escuela bolero, including castanets for beginners to advanced students from 28 January to 1 February 2014.
Rodrigo’s much loved Concierto de Aranjuez is jointly choreographed by Paloma Gomez and Danza Viva founder Deanna Blacher OAM. Also on the program will be choreographies by Chicago-based Jose Torres and Tomas Arroquero and a delightfully colourful Alegrias for the full company and much more.
Kieren Ray, arguably Australia’s finest flamenco guitarist, returns to Perth in January with flamenco singer Antonio Soria.
Nicola de la Rosa leads the Danza Viva Spanish Dance Company. Danza Viva soloist, Karen Henderson, founder of dance wear and costume brand, Fuego Flamenco has undertaken most of the costume design and making for the upcoming performance.
Performances at the Octagon Theatre on Saturday January 25 at 3pm and 7:30pm.
