Peter Somerford has been the Principal Epidemiologist in the Department of Health, Western Australia since 2005 and previously worked as a data analyst in the health field for over 15 years. In his role as Principal Epidemiologist, Peter directs and manages the Epidemiology Branch in its function of population health status monitoring and surveillance, interpreting epidemiological data, advising on health outcome assessment and performing epidemiological research. The Department of Health is represented by Peter on a number of State and national committees concerned with establishing policy on population health data development. Peter holds a Visiting Associate Professor position within the Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute at Curtin University.
