Abstract: In this study, we examine the relationship between market power of GPs in setting fees and several measures of quality of care. The data is derived from service claims from over 17,000 GPs in Australia between 2005 and 2010. We find evidence that market power, as measured by GP’s pricing behavior above a pre-determined price floor, lowers participation in chronic disease management programs and provision of long consultations.
