Andrew Woo is a Research Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine and Pharmacology at UWA and RPH-MRF fellow. He completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at UWA under the direction of Professor Lawrence Abraham. In 2004, he began his postdoctoral training under the mentorship of Professor Alan Cantor at the Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, USA. He returned to Perth with the RPH-MRF fellowship in 2012. His research interests encompass understanding the transcriptional gene regulatory mechanisms in hematopoietic stem/progenitors cells, blood and epithelial cancers. He is particularly interested in understanding the role of ZBP-89, a novel GATA-1 associated transcription factor in hematopoiesis and cancers. With Professor Peter Leedman, he also has interests in further understanding of genome wide transcriptional program in epithelial cancers with particular focus on the role of RNA induced silencing complex (RISC).
