Prof. Blancafort is an Associate Professor at UWA, at the School of Anatomy, Physiology and Human Biology. She did her PhD at the University of Montreal Canada, on engineering sequence-specific RNA and DNA binding proteins, she moved to the Scripps Research Institute as post-doctoral fellow on the field of engineered zinc finger transcription factors for genome editing. In 2005 she started her own laboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later as associated tenured professor in the same institution. She moved to UWA in September 2012. Prof. Blancafort's laboratory is interested in bringing protein engineering in the field of cancer to generate novel and more specific forms of treatment to treat currently uncurable forms of cancer, such as basal-like and serous ovarian cancer.
