TALK: Shifting Australian 'imaginings' of Japan

Join Romit Dasgupta in a talk discussing the transformations of the 'imaginings' of Japan on Friday 14 June at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery.

Over the post-World War Two decades, ‘imaginings’ of Japan in public discourse in Australia have undergone radical and often unanticipated transformations.

This talk traces these shifts in Australian public imaginings of Japan, particularly in visual and public culture, from former enemy in the 1950s to global economic superpower in the 1970s-1990s, and in more recent decades, a country with a strong youth-culture and popular-culture appeal.
