Has the Higgs Boson been discovered at the CERN Large Hadron Collider? Other events...
On July 4, 2012, based on preliminary data analyses both the ATLAS and CMS collaborations announced the discovery of a new fundamental particle that is consistent with the long sought after Higgs Boson. I will discuss the important role the Higgs Boson plays in the standard model of Particle Physics and present the latest search results of the ATLAS collaboration.

I will also discuss the next steps in elucidating the particle's true nature. Is it the Higgs Boson predicted by the standard model? Or is it a manifestation of something more exotic?
