Victoria Schofield is an internationally recognized scholar of the Kashmir issue. Her publications include Kashmir in the Crossfire (1996) Kashmir in Conflict (2000 and 2002) and Afghan Frontier: Feuding and Fighting in Central Asia.
The Kashmir issue has bedevilled relations between India and Pakistan since independence in August 1947. The two states have fought wars on the issue in 1965 and 1999, and have also explored options for resolving the issue. The nuclear capability of these two states adds a particular element in the equation, and highlights the need to resolve the debate on the future of Kashmir
