Groups and Combinatorics Seminar
John Bamberg (UWA) will speak on Pentagonal geometries at 11am on Wednesday 14th of March in MLR2 Abstract: Jacques Tits introduced generalised polygons in order to geometrically describe groups of Lie type, and as their name suggests, they are generalisations of ordinary regular polygons. In this talk, we look at the concept of a "pentagonal geometry" as a generalisation of the pentagon and the Desargues configuration, in the same vein that the generalised polygons share the fundamental properties of ordinary polygons. (This is joint work with Simeon Ball, Alice Devillers and Klara Stokes).
