Title: Impact of aquatic invaders
Abstract:
Invasive species have altered aquatic ecosystems around the globe. I will provide a brief introduction to invasion impact ecology and provide examples of aquatic invasion impact from (1) mensurative ‘before-after’ invasion comparisons, (2) manipulative experiments and (3) meta-analytical synthesis of 40 years of published field experiments. I conclude that impacts of aquatic invaders have been studies relatively little, and that it remains difficult to predict detailed outcomes of a specific invasion, but that broad generalizations can be derived from basic knowledge about attributes of the invader, the impacted organism, and the invaded habitat.
