WORKSHOP: Self and Peer Assessment
|
|
This session is for Academic staff who would like to encourage their students to do peer and self assessment.
Workshop Description:
Self-assessment provides a fundamental link with learning. Self-assessment is concerned with learners valuing their own learning and achievements on the basis of evidence from themselves and others. When peer-assessment is used to provide rich and detailed comments from other students, then both the recipient and providing students may be more able to develop their own perceptions and form a judgement that will inform future learning. Peer-assessment can be seen as a way to help develop self-assessment skills. Both are fundamental to professional practice and to effective learning.
Self and peer assessment also can have benefits for the teacher by increasing the timeliness and impact of feedback for students on the quality of their learning as well as offering potential efficiency and time saving while not diminishing student learning opportunities.
Intended Outcomes:
At the conclusion of the workshop you will;
- Have examined the various ways in which self and peer assessment may be used in your discipline
- Considered the advantages of introducing self and peer assessment and strategies to mitigate any disadvantages
- Have examined a range of resources to support the introduction of peer and self assessment in your teaching, including case studies.
