Sugata Marjit is the Director and Reserve Bank of India Professor of Industrial Economics at the Centre of Studies in Social Sciences, Kolkata, and editor of India Macroeconomics Annual. He has also just been appointed the Chairman of West Bengal State Council of Higher Education. He is a well-known TV commentator featured in various channels including STAR & BBC World Service, a regular columnist of the well known Bengali daily Anandababzar Patrika and Times of India. A globe-trotting economist, he combines academic activities with a growing presence on the music circuit.
Sugata Marjit is an unusual musician. His brand of music qualifies him as a messiah of postmodernism in Hidustani classical music. He has developed a style of his own, lyrical, rhythmic and unorthodox. He also composes music for theatre. His work in 1995 won him the West Bengal State Drama Academy Award.
Please come and enjoy an evening of pure music at the heart of School of Music in UWA.
