Microbiology & Immunology Seminar Series: Functional characterisation of a novel murine cytomegalovirus gene complex : Final PhD Seminar Other events...
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a betaherpesvirus that persistently infects the majority of the population, resulting in severe disease in individuals with compromised immunity such as HIV/AIDS patients and congenitally infected infants. We have identified a novel gene, m15, in murine cytomegalovirus that inhibits the host immune response. This early inhibitory signal is vital for MCMV dissemination to the salivary gland, where it persists and transmits via the saliva.
