SEMINAR: �Genetic and Molecular Biomarkers of Susceptibility and Outcome in Melanoma"

Graham Mann is a Professor in Medicine at the University of Sydney at the Westmead Millennium Institute and Melanoma Institute Australia. After training in medical oncology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital he worked as a graduate student at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Sydney Branch, and at the University of Umeå in Sweden. In 1990 he moved to the Westmead campus of Sydney Medical School to work in cancer genetics.

Graham helps lead a multidisciplinary melanoma research program funded by the NHMRC and Cancer Institute NSW, with teams across the University of Sydney and at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research. These programs are engaged in all aspects of melanoma control, from population-based studies of genetic and environmental susceptibility to melanoma, and psychosocial aspects of melanoma risk, to molecular markers of diagnosis, prognosis and response to treatment. Recent successes have included the discovery of novel genetic risk factors in the Australian population, and of novel biomarkers of prognosis in melanoma.

Graham is a founding member and principal investigator of the international Melanoma Genetics Consortium (GenoMEL). A founding member of the Kathleen Cuningham Consortium for Research in Familial Breast Cancer (kConFab). Graham was also President of the Australian Society for Medical Research in 1996.

Graham holds the position of Associate Dean (Research) in Sydney Medical School and Chair of the University of Sydney Cancer Research Network and is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Cancer Council NSW and its Cancer Research and Governance Committees.
