From the vibrant sounds of the Andes, to the sublime sounds of Eric Whitacre and Billy Joel: the Perth Undergraduate Choral Society and Los Chasquis invite you to an unforgettable musical event in the superb acoustics of St Joseph's Church in Subiaco.
"Misa Criolla and Songs from the Americas" is a musical journey through the Americas featuring the stunning folk mass Misa Criolla, excerpts from the Andean folk mass Misa Andina, songs from Brazil and Argentina, plus superb choral music by contemporary composers Morten Lauridsen and Eric Whitacre. The extraordinary Misa Criolla (one of the first masses composed in the Spanish vernacular) features the traditional folk rhythms of South America, with accompaniment on traditional instruments including zampona (pan pipes), quena (a bamboo flute) and charango (a small ten stringed guitar).
Perth Undergraduate Choral Society (PUCS), a student oriented choir based at UWA is one of Perth's most versatile and dynamic choirs. PUCS performs an ambitious repertoire which ranges from folk, jazz and contemporary to liturgical music and the masterpieces of the Baroque and Classical periods. Los Chasquis are a group of five South American multi instrumentalists, specialising in the folk music of the Andean mountains. Their infectious and vibrant music have won them enthusiastic audience receptions in many performances across Australia, including highly successful past collaborations with PUCS.
The concert takes place at 7:30pm on Saturday May 28th at St Joseph's Church, Subiaco. Tickets are $25 full price and $20 concession, available by calling 6424 9923 or at the door.
