Cellular Maturation: Signals for Endothelial Fenestration : School of Anatomy & Human Biology Seminar Series Other events...
The Seminar - Endothelial cells differentiate in the embryo from mesodermal cell population. Additional signals from the microenvironment are necessary to mature the endotheium into the local differentiation status, i.e. the formation of the blood-braiun barrier, sinus formation in the spleen or the fenestrations of the blood capillary system in the endocrine glands. Here our concept on the regulation of fenestra formation in endothelial cells and the signaling cascades involved will be discussed.

The Speaker - Rupert is currently Professor of Physiological Chemistry in the Medical Faculty at Wesfaelische Wilhelms-Universitaet, Muenster, Germany. He has also held positions in the Department of Experimental Pathology, Lund University, Sweden and as Group Leader in the Institute for Experimental Medicine, Erlangen-Nuernberg, Germany. He graduated from the Max-Planck-Institute for Development Biology, Germany. His central research interests are: The Role of the Blood Vessel Endothelium in Inflammation and Extravasation; Mechanisms of Endothelial Cell Angiogenesis & Differentiation and Mechanisms of Endothelial Cell Activitation. He has 50 publications: 43 peer-reviewed and 7 monographies.
