Richard G Pestell (MBBS, MD, PhD, FRACP, FACP), completed undergraduate medical studies at The University of Western Australia, Clinical training in Medicine, Endocrinology and Oncology followed by a PhD at University of Melbourne. He then took up appointments at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital and at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, before becoming Director of the Lombardi Cancer Center and Chairman of the Department of Oncology at Georgetown University, Washington. In 2005 he was appointed Director of the Kimmel Cancer Center at the Thomas Jefferson University and Hospital, Philadelphia and, more recently, became the founding Director of the Delaware Valley Institute for Clinical and Translational Science. Professor Pestell has made significant contributions to the understanding of cancer onset, progression and therapy resistance. His laboratory was the first to show: 1. Acetylation of transcription factors, like phosphorylation, governs cell growth 2. the pleiotropic activities of cyclin D1 including its requirement for breast cancer progression 3.

Professor Pestell has authored more than 530 published works, 350 original publications and book chapters and more than 170 published abstracts. His papers have been published in outstanding journals including Cell, Science, Nature Medicine, Molecular Cell and EMBO J.
