Molecular labeling technologies for fluorescence microscopy - 6 December Other events...
Dr Iain Johnson, Principal Scientist, Cell Systems - Immunology Services at Life Technologies will visit the CMCA to provide a comparative overview of the major fluorescent labeling technologies - organic dyes, fluorescent proteins and quantum dot nanocrystals.

These technologies are complementary and the instrumentation with which they are used requires little modification to switch from one technology to another. Preferences for one labeling technology over another are primarily driven by experimental objectives. In particular, the type of specimen being labeled (live or fixed, dissociated culture, tissue or whole animal), the abundance of the molecular target and the type of the biological information (localization, dynamics, activity) that is being sought are key input criteria. These issues will be discussed in relation to recent technical developments including improved BacMam vectors for expression of ion channel targets and fluorescent protein fusions and Click-iT bioorthogonal labeling chemistry.

Plus you could WIN a Molecular Probes handbook. Just send through your best molecular probes fluorescent image to Caoimhe Nic Ant Saoir by Fri 3 December.
