Dr Kaylene Simpson is Head of the Functional Genomics Facility at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The group encompasses the Victorian Centre for Functional Genomics (VCFG) which enables whole genome screening using a short hairpin RNA interference (shRNA) approach or a high throughput small interfering RNA interference (siRNA) approach. Dr Simpson took up this position in October 2008 following 6.5 years in the Department of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School, Boston USA, where she pioneered a high throughput siRNA screening approach using high content imaging. With a PhD in mammary gland development and lactation biology and postdoctoral experience in breast cancer and stem cell biology, she is currently focusing on mechanisms regulating breast carcinoma cell migration and invasion. The Functional Genomics Facility is committed to providing access to all Australian researchers interested in pursuing genome wide screens.
