CONCERT: Christmas from Cambridge
|
|
The Perth Undergraduate Choral Society, Inc (PUCS) presents 'Christmas
from Cambridge' : a concert of sublime choral music and favourite
carols, evoking the atmosphere of traditional Cambridge Carol services.
In the exquisite setting and acoustic of St Patrick's Basilica in
Fremantle, the choir, directed by Cambridge Alumnus Jonathan Paxman
will present a selection of modern English carol settings, including
many pieces featured in the traditional Nine Lessons and Carols
services of King's and St John's Colleges in Cambridge. The concert
will feature works by John Tavener, Herbert Howells and Boris Ord;
and Benjamin Britten's extraordinary cantata "Rejoice in the Lamb".
The audience will be invited to join in the singing with some
traditional "community carols" including God Rest You Merry Gentlemen,
and Once in Royal David's City. The Basilica Organist, Dominic
Perissinotto, will accompany the choir on the Basilica's magnificent pipe
organs.
Tickets are $25 full price
and $20 concession, available by calling 6424 9923 or at the door.
