Join WA Premier’s Research Fellow, Winthrop Professor Shaun Collin, as he focuses on the vision of species of fish which inhabit the diverse Australian marine ecosystems.
Shaun talks about the vital importance of light detection to the survival of any living organism. Highlighting 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity, he traces the evolution of light detection and image formation, and explores the impacts of light on biodiversity, on the sustainability of WA’s native animals, and on animal health.
Professor Collin will discuss the perception of light in hagfishes, lampreys, sharks and teleosts and compare these animals’ visual systems to that of humans.
