EVENT: Friends of the Library talk
|
|
Mr Kevin Coate will speak on his Kimberley connections, initially about his cousin Howard Coate, a lay missionary, who moved to the Kimberley in 1934 to work with Aboriginal people. His interests in linguistics and Aboriginal mythology brought him to the notice of Professor AP Elkin and Dr Arthur Capell in what was to become a long association. From early contact with Howard Coate, Kevin developed an interest in the Kimberley. This eventually led to pioneering ventures in nature-based tourism along the Kimberley coast and back-packing expeditions into remote inland areas. The talk will be illustrated by images taken by Howard and himself.
