Detecting Multivariate Changes in Biological Assemblages: Experimental Design and Data Analysis : Multivariate Statistic Workshop Other events...
Detecting Multivariate Changes in Biological Assemblages: Experimental Design and Data Analysis Data collected by biological, ecological and environmental researchers is often multivariate in nature. The experimental design for collecting, and the analysis of, multivariate data can often be daunting, but need not be. The Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Western Australia will be hosting a multivariate statistics workshop between the 15th and 26th of November 2010. The course covers the fundamentals of design and analysis of experiments in ecology and biology, with emphasis on multivariate techniques. Ecologists and biologists will be instructed on how to decide what kind of analysis is appropriate for a given situation, and how to interpret their results. There are no explicit pre-requisites, but a general familiarity with univariate statistics will be an advantage. The course will be taught by Professor Bob Clarke and Ray Gorley (first week on PRIMER) and Professor Marti Anderson and Ray Gorley (second week on PERMANOVA+). A workshop overview and biographies of the lecturers can be found in the attached document. The course is limited to 35 participants. Applications to participate in the course are invited from postgraduate students, research and academic staff from UWA. The course costs are $1650 for staff and $1200 for students. Costs do not include GST. The fee will include manuals, morning and afternoon teas and light refreshments at two social events. Software is not included in the course costs. At the conclusion of the workshop we will determine how many people from UWA wish to purchase software and will organize a bulk buy which will reduce costs. Postgraduate students from the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences are particularly encouraged to participate and can apply for supplementary funding to reduce the course costs. Please contact Euan Harvey. To apply to participate in the workshop please send an email to Euan Harvey ([email protected]) expressing your interest. Expressions of interest will close on Friday the 30th of July 2010 at which time remaining places will be offered to interested people from the broader scientific community.
